TREE PORTRAITS
The TREE PORTRAITS project was initiated in March 2021. It seeks to celebrate the nature and character of trees, with a focus on individual trees rather than larger groups or woodlands in general. Much in the same way that a human portrait study closes in and shows the detail of a person, a TREE PORTRAIT does that with the tree. Getting in close, looking at different angles and perspectives and presenting an individualistic photograph of the tree is the aim of the project. A more artistic approach is used, to celebrate the life of the individual tree or small groups of trees.
The project involves a range of photography techniques, including standard digital, infrared, monochrome, different types of film (both 35mm and 120), plus cyanotypes and tinted negatives. The project seeks to look at the character of trees in a photographically imaginative and creative manner.
